SW Sailing's NauticEd practical exams and on-the-water instruction classes for Qualified Crew and Skipper "Rank"  are held on Lake Pleasant, AZ using our

Catalina 270. 

For more advanced ocean instruction we use chartered sailboats in San Diego and Long Beach, CA, typically boats similar to Hunter 29.5, Beneteau 37, and Beneteau 45.

Arizona Sailing Lessons with Southwest Sailing and Emory & Debbra Heisler.

Your Captain, Emory Heisler, has been sailing since 1995, and teaching sailing since 2008.

Even though he's lived most of his life in Arizona, he brings OVER 20 YEARS of sailing experience to  your instruction.  Emory & Debbra have sailed over 5000 nautical miles together teaching, cruising, chartering, racing and making long distance delivery passages together in world-wide locations including: Whitsunday Islands (Australia), U.S. & British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, BC-Canada Gulf Islands, San Juan Islands, San Francisco Bay, Southern California, Catalina Island, Sea of Cortez, Puerto Vallarta, Newport RI, Long Island Sound, “DelMarVa” Coast, Chesapeake & Delaware Bays, the Florida Keys, the Gulf of Mexico and multiple Gulf Stream crossings and several 1000+nm sailboat deliveries between US mid-Atlantic Coast and the Caribbean. 

Emory has sailing experience on over 30 different types of sailboats ranging from Lasers, Catalina 14.2s and his favorite 
Buccaneer 18, up to Swan 56s, Volvo Open 60s and Lagoon 45 catamarans.  

Emory is certified to teach:

- ASA101, 103, 104, 105 and 114

  (Basic Keelboat, Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, Coastal Nav., Catamaran Cruising)

- NauticEd Practical Exam Certification through Captain Rank with SLC.

- US Sailing Small Boat Certification

In addition to sailing instruction certifications Emory also holds:

- USCG OUPV 100T Near Coastal Captain’s License

- Safe Power Boater/Rescue Boat

- PADI Advanced Open-Water scuba diving certifications.

When not sailing together, Emory and Debbra enjoy backpacking, camping, snow skiing, traveling and spending time together with their family in AZ, UT and MI.   Emory and Debbra are both retired and like 
many retirees are busier now than ever.
